Well, I haven't updated in a while. I suppose everyone's wondering what's up.

Or not.

Anyway. I spent an outrageous amount of money to get a copy of Destroyer. Yes, that's right. I've read the next Foreigner book, which doesn't come out until February. It was pretty darn good.

Let's see, what else? I got my hands on The Grim Grotto, which was fully as excellent as every other book in A Series of Unfortunate Events, and I also read Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, which I had my doubts about but which was very good and I highly recommend it to anyone who's thinking about reading it.

Meanwhile, the race to provide camera-ready music to the Missouri Historical Society Press for the new edition of The Missouri Harmony continues. We're up on their website now. Ignore the thing about shaped notes being European--I have no idea where they got that.

More rejections, and I need to do some thinking--where in the world will Squeaky find a home? It's depressing that ASIM didn't take it, but there you go. I had some very nice notes from the readers.

We put up our Christmas tree. Ever since Paidhi Girl realized there was such a thing, it's had to go up the weekend after Thanksgiving, and taking it down is an occasion of great mourning. So the other day Paidhi Boy says to me, "Mom, is it Christmas?"

"No," I say.

"Is it Christmas Eve?"

"No," I say.

"Is tomorrow Christmas?"

"No," I say.

His response was immediate. "Aww, man!"

They're so cute.
