Damn Power Outage
Jul. 6th, 2004 08:21 pmThe power has been out since last night. No computer. A fridge and freezer full of slowly rotting food. No lights except flashlights.
This is not cool.
I'm posting from the library right now. We went over to Mr. Cameron's parents for supper last night, and in the middle of the brats and german potato salad it started storming. TV said another one just as bad was coming through, so we stayed put. Power went out, trees went down. The drive home was convoluted, there were trees and power lines across the usual routes.
So the power still wasn't on this morning, and swim lessons were cancelled because there's no power at the pool. Paidhi Boy was bitterly disappointed, but at least his school had power, so he went, and Paidhi Girl and I went to my mom's. No power there, either, so off to the library to submit another crit (to keep my percentage decent!) and check email.
The seats where I can plug in my own laptop are all taken, I don't feel like climbing up into the stacks, and the keyboard I'm sitting at has sticky shift keys. I'm Not Happy.
Oh, and there's no way to know when the power's going to come back on, either. So no writing today, no power today, no fun.
Damn it!
Please, Og, let the power be on tomorrow. Let me get a few hours of writing in. I think, if I get the chance, I'm going to start back on the novel. It's been sitting for too long, and it's beginning to itch, and I want at least a completed second draft when November rolls around and it's time to spit out the third one (novel, that is, not draft). I've still got another short story pending, but I think it's a bit more ambitious than I'm ready for. Or not--I just don't think I'm ready to do it yet, and I'm getting impatient with spending so long on the stories with the novel waiting to be worked on. So I'll save the dinosaur thing for later.
Damn these shift keys, I'm ready to throw this thing through the window!
