So, I haven't actually updated in a while, or posted any writing updates.

Well, I tried an experiment--writing at home while the kids were at school. It didn't work. When I'm home, those piles of dirty dishes, the morning's download of last night's Daily Show, the knitting, the laundry, whatever, are just too much there and waiting to be done, and it's too easy to say "well, I'll write more tonight and clean up now."

So. I'm back to writing out of the house, though Tuesdays and Thursdays are days I can't really do that, but what the heck. So the end result of the new schedule is two thousand words of a new story--the Epic. It's an epic because I saw the guidelines page for Twenty Epics, and was bothered by the question, "How do you get immersive worldbuilding and larger than life themes in under five thousand words?" I didn't mean to actually try to solve the problem (and, likely, ultimately won't have solved it) but I couldn't help coming up with something.

Creation and Destruction is back out. Squeaky is on its way to sit up and beg yet another editor. Abyss hasn't come back yet, but I expect rejection any day now.

This morning it was cold! It's rained and rained for two days now, and nearby rivers are high or flooding, and then it went and froze up last night. So I got the kids dressed and out the door only to discover that I couldn't pry open even a single door of the car. I herded the kids back in, announced there was no school, and then told them to sit down, maybe there would be. I took two big cups of hot water out to the car and poured them on the door, and started kicking.

Success! But it was the only door. Once I'd strapped the kids in, I had to climb over them and into the front seat. And then when I got to Paidhi Girl's school the door had re-frozen. Unsurprisingly--I'd helped that along by pouring more water on. The hot water that got on the window had frozen by the time I got the kids back outside, so I knew we were in for trouble, but I also knew that I'd be able to open the front door by leaning on it, which I did. The whole car was warmed up by the time we got to Paidhi Boy's school, so no trouble there, but I'm a trifle apprehensive that it will re-freeze by the time I need to pick him up and take him to lunch bunch.

In other news, word is some senators are actually going to stand up and protest the Ohio election. No, it won't change anything, but maybe it will force the mainstream media into paying attention to the crap that went on there, and sometimes you need to take a stand just because something's right, not because it'll get you something. C-SPAN, 1pm Eastern.
