Aug. 31st, 2006 05:00 pmI'm getting back into the groove. The first few days, I was totally beat. It's been a long time since I've done that sort of work, and a long time since I've had to be up that early. So it's been nearly a whole week now, and I'm finally kind of getting into the swing of things--not feeling so blasted when I get up, or when I clock out.
The people I work with seem like a good bunch, which counts for an awful lot. Though doubtless the rough spots will become more apparent once I've worked with them for a while--but so far, the signs are positive. I did have one gobsmacked moment the very first day, though--I was asked to fill a ketchup/condiment container (you know, one of those plastic ketchup bottles) with ranch dressing. The dressing was in a big, widemouthed jar. "Sure," I say. "Where are the funnels?" I get a look like I've just sprouted an extra head, so I repeat my request, and am directed to the funnels. A co-worker walks by. "Wow," she says. "What a great idea! Now I won't have to do that with a teaspoon anymore!"
It was mainly gobsmacking because generally they really do work very efficiently, and are a pretty smart bunch. It was just weird.
