Mar. 30th, 2007 09:23 pmCreve Coeur Lake is Missouri's largest natural lake. It is also an oxbow lake.
We went fishing there last weekend. None of us caught anything except for Paidhi Girl.

Yes, that is what you think it is--the fabled Stone Bass. It is a distant relative of the Stick Trout and the Weedfish, frequent catches during Cameron family fishing trips. Much harder to hook, though. I'm not surprised Paidhi Girl was the one to get it. Paidhi Boy, at the local park with pond, reels in tiny little bluegills (which are admired and then returned to their home) all morning. So do I, and Mr. Cameron, and Mr. Cameron's father--a seasoned fisherman himself.
Paidhi Girl will sit all day with a worm and no bobber, get nothing for two or three trips, and one morning will pull out, say, a single eighteen inch bass and then a nice-sized catfish. We have no idea how she does it.
(Both bass and catfish were also returned to the water after brief admiring remarks. The bass was quickly photographed, because it was a really good catch.)
