It's the third time this year that rampaging giant ice monsters have forced the school district to close. I'm pretty sure that's a record of some sort.
This time they did the uncharacteristically sensible thing--instead of what they did last time. Last time (two weeks ago) they refused to call off, even though nearly every other school in the area was closed, and then halfway through the day realized just why everyone else was closed, as the sleet came pouring down (on the ground it looked like snow, but up close you could see it was lots and lots of little spheres of ice) and roads became more treacherous by the minute. The high school administration thoughtfully advised seniors not to go out for lunch, because it was maybe too slippery to be safe. The near universal question, when that announcement came over the PA: "If it's not safe to go out for lunch, just how was it safe to go out to come to school?" Did they let out early? Hell no. They did cancel evening activities and call off the next day, though.
It's snowing pretty hard right now, (I just heard thunder!) and between now and 3 or 4pm we're supposed to have five to nine inches. Paidhi Girl regrets missing today's lunch, which was supposed to be fishsticks. I am still in my jammies, but I'd better get up and actually accomplish something with my unexpected free time.
