If you don't read Making Light, (and you should), you absolutely must check out this post about Betty and Barney Hill.

We have acheived a small fishtank in the kitchen. It's only five gallons, and has plastic plants and two very small fake ruins. Also one otocinclus and two platys. Well, one platy just now, since platy number two looked to be coming down with a touch of something nasty, so that one has been removed to a bowl in the basement, where it is undergoing treatment. Paidhi Girl has named them already--the oto is Olive, and the two platys are Blimpy and Sharp. She is determined to nurse Sharp back to health, though I have warned her that with fish it's chancy.
Today we finally got a power strip, which let me plug in the heater (hardly neccesary right now, but will be in a few weeks) and the "bubblator." Which scared the living daylights out of Blimpy, who nearly jumped out of the tank when it went on and is now cowering behind a ruin.

Two days of wearing Birkenstocks at work has, no joke, cured my plantars fascitis. The lady at the store promised they would, which I silently doubted. She also told me that it would return if I went barefoot around the house too much.
The birkies were a present from my mom--now I think I need another pair.
