Misc. News: Ancillary Mercy, Ancillary Justice (Subterranean edition)

I’ve been awfully scarce around the internets lately. Part of that is just introvert crash (I went to way more cons and meetings last year than I ever have, and done much, much more socializing than usual, which was fabulous and I loved getting to meet people, but it’s exhausting), but part of it has been me trying to actually finish writing Ancillary Mercy.

I have finished Ancillary Mercy. And turned it in to my editors.

So, what’s next? Well, pretty much everyone wants to know that. Including me, myself. I’m not sure. Certainly I’ll have notes from my editors, and I’ll do revisions, and copyedits when those come around. After that, well, we’ll see!

I made a wordle of AM, which I am tempted to post, but I’m not sure if I should. Maybe I’ll wait a few months?

Next! You all may remember that Subterranean is doing a limited edition hardcover of Ancillary Justice.

The other day I got a look at a draft of the cover art. The cover is going to be by Lauren St Onge and it’s fabulous! But I can’t show it to you yet. I will as soon as I can, though!

Also–fairly trivial, but just to answer some speculation or questions I’ve seen here or there–I was an active member of a CJ Cherryh fan community under the name hautdesert, and I still count the folks in that community among my friends. Before that I was also–this is perhaps a bit less obvious, and a bit more random–the proprietor of a Peter Gabriel fansite, and during that period I went under the name “Eve.” I had a few moments of fan glory during that time, the biggest being the time a reporter interviewing PG presented him with printouts of part of my fansite for him to react to. Not that the site itself was anything special–if I tell you it was originally on Geocities, that will tell you all you need to know about that part of my internet career. Hey, we all have to start somewhere!

The folks from Shejidan already know I’m haut, but if you know me from Gabeweb, here’s a “hi!” and a friendly wave.

Vigorous waving from the Shejidani! :D (I posted a link on Facebook to an interview you'd done a while back, talking about how ancillaries were made and how you'd grown up without sci-fi being particularly gendered (me too! but I rarely hear this from others, sadly)...and got at least three Shejidani being nostalgic and enthusiastic in comments. :D Our nand'haut!)

P.S. I feel like I'm one of very few people who comments on your DW rather than Actual Blog. Do you have a preference one way or the other?

Eh, it doesn't matter where you comment! Sometimes everyone comments on my LJ, sometimes the blog, sometimes here....

Oh, not that I'm seeing anyone's posts at some dreamwidth community that might or might not be about my books, but--so far as I know, it's an October 2015 release for AM (not sure of the exact date, but I'm assuming early in Oct), the cover for AM will be the last third of that John Harris painting, I've seen a mockup and it's much like the other three, and for reasons unknown to me, yes, Subterranean commissioned all new artwork for the hardback of AJ. It's awesome, really.

I peek in at Shejidan every now and then! Though not terribly often, and I haven't had the energy to post.

Awesome, awesome about the October release date! I shall be chewing my nails until then, of course, but it's nice to have an estimate. And more art is always cool. Can't wait to see if Breq is on it or if it's all ships again or what!

I used to practically live at Shejidan, but I wandered off a couple of years ago and stick my nose in now and then. I see some of the fanart I did back in the day popping up here and there and feel charmed. And of course keep in touch with a few of the salads from there...chomiji writes me adorable fic for every fest we're in together (have you seen the one about Cajeiri and Christmas?) and Nepenti came to my wedding! So it's a lot more diffuse than it was.

I only haven't written any myself because I'm intimidated by the thought of getting it wrong. For some reason I have a block about that in Foreigner fandom that I don't with practically anything else. It's weird. Happily will read everyone else's, though!
