Oops, better put this behind a cut.

Pictures of the kitchen.

So here's Paidhi Girl, scraping away linoleum tile. She saved one, as a memento of the occasion, and because she thought it was beautiful. Notice the lath on one side and the wallboard on the other--at this point, we're wondering why they bothered to put up one section of wallboard but no others.

Here's a shot of the wall cabinets. We think they were hung by the people we bought the house from, though the cabinets themselves are older, and the counter had that boomerang pattern that was so popular in the fifties. In any event, the people who installed these cabinets were the ones who covered up the pantry. They're hanging right in front of the thing. See that box under the first cabinet, where there should be an electrical outlet? That's in wallboard that's covering the thing up. We've lived here for more than ten years, and we had no idea.

Here the thing is. You can see one remaining wall cabinet in the very back. Whoever hung the cabinets also went to the trouble to build out a sort of lopsided thing to make it look like they were built into the wall. Lots of kitchens have that kind of thing, but usually they've got all right angles.

Please forgive the leafy vine--I did that myself, within months of moving in. Between the beige, the off-white the sellers had painted every wall in the house, and the bilious greenish-gray they'd painted the cabinets, I was afraid I was losing my mind and needed some bright color fast.

Paidhi Boy measures (a favorite job) and Paidhi Girl pries. How could we possibly do the job without them?

I have no idea whether I will survive this or not.
