Yes, I really should be writing right now. But research is so much fun!

I have a sneaking suspicion that I've seen this link before on my f-list, but I'm not certain.

Parlor Songs.

Sheet music from the late 19th and early 20th century. Check out the catalog--an alphabetical list of all the songs on the site. All are available in either midi and/or scorch, and there are scans of the sheet music covers. Lovely! Considering the project I'm working on, I was entertained to discover a cheery march (circa 1901) called "A Signal from Mars" and a 1902 song called "The Girl from Mars." So now I'm going around humming to myself.

For I am the girl from Mars
The sweetest in all the stars
A topsy-turvey hurly-burly girl am I.
I do not care for cars
We haven't them up in Mars
So when I make a trip, of course I fly.

That's very cool! Another group of magazine collectors I belong to were talking about the earliest trips to Mars in fiction, and this fits right into its appearance as an idea in the popular culture. Great stuff. Thanks.

Glad you enjoyed it! Thinking about it, you'd expect a fair amount of Mars pop culture stuff right around then. I don't know why it never occurred to me that there would be songs. I was genuinely surprised to see them, and then a moment later realized I shouldn't have been surprised at all.

*waves* Er...hautdesert, is that you? It's Asicho (newbie) from the Shejidan boards...was Googling "baji-naji" to see if someone had a succinct description of the topic, and came up with your LJ! I knew there was a [livejournal.com profile] jago_ateva but not a Bren on LJ. :P

Felicitous greetings, nandi. Wanted to wave happily in your direction, and also to say that I fell off my chair reading "Green Eggs & Fish" and "Happy Shelfish always files a flight plan!" Also The Mospheirans amused me, particularly the teenagers' obsession with the Assassins' Guild. "Whatever you do, nadi, use finesse..."

Anyway. Hello! :)

Hey, Asicho! Glad to see you over here! :) I had no idea Jago was on LJ...hmm. Yes, I'm hautdesert--got another lj under that name, but I've stopped keeping it up for various reasons.

Oh, and I'm glad you liked the fic! I wrote it to amuse, so I'm always pleased when it does that. :)

*grin* I think that Jago's part of a roleplay, and I don't think there are any other Foreigner-verse characters there, so she interacts with all sorts of interesting people from other universes. If I were ambitious, I'd come up with a Bren or a Jase or something to have talk to her. Only the player seems to have gone on hiatus for a while now.

Anyway. See you around Shejidan. :D Mind if I put you on my friends' list, nandi?

P.S. I quite adore your "man'chi" icon. :D :D :D
