Me: Because you're cute.
Paidhi Boy: I'm not cute!
Me: Yes you are.
Paidhi Boy: But Mom! You're not hugging me because I'm cute. You're hugging me because you love me.

I guess "I love you because you're cute" would be the wrong response?

I think "you're cute because I love you" would be a bit more accurate. But either statement would be true, more or less. Most parents think their own kids are the cutest in the world, regardless of any actual, objectively observed cuteness.

Though I have it on good authority that my children really *are* extremely cute. ;)
