Two rejections in as many days. I expect a third shortly--over at Interzone Jetse says he's working on May 4 subs, and I subbed Au May 5. The dinos and Creation and Destruction (which Paidhi Girl calls "the fish baby story") are back out the door already, of course. I don't let them stay overnight if I can help it. Moment of amusement--the dinos were rejected by Analog, who addressed their letter to "Mr. Leckie."

You must go out immediately and get a copy of the current F&SF. Just do it! ( If you've got a subscription, you are allowed to wait for your issue to arrive, though it may already have. ) Turn to p. 147 and read the story there. Yay, Heather!

Now, when you're done reading Just Do It, surf over to Flashquake and check out Gravitational Simulations for Three Invisible Things by the inimitable James Trimarco, and The Mountain to Mohammed by E. C. Myers. James read Gravitational Simulations this past weekend at Wiscon, and it was a smashingly cool story. I haven't hit Eugene's yet, but I'm headed there now.

Heather did a great job on that story!

It was, by far, the best reason a person should buy that issue.

Wow, F&SF, go Heather! *g* And the guys as well. I did enjoy the CW2005 reading. I really should get an F&SF subscription, because finding single issues is just impossible over here. :-(

I'm very impressed at you getting stuff out of the door so quickly. I need to do the same, but it's just not happening somehow.

I've kind of forced myself to make it a habit. I keep a stack of pre-printed SASEs and ms-sized envelopes at my desk. I also have labels already printed up for Asimovs and F&SF. It also helps that the post office nearby has put a machine in the lobby (accessible 24hours) that will weigh your stuff and then dispense a sticker with the right postage--you just run a credit card into it. So I can't do the "I don't have time for the post office during the hours they're open" thing.

Lots of places have been esubs lately, though. The Analog rejection was the first snail-mail rejection I've had in quite some time.

Cool factoid--Just Do It was Heather's week four story. So when you're feeling overwhelmed and like everything you're writing just isn't coming out right, remember that once you get some distance on it, and you've got time to do revisions, it's going to be worth it. :)

I don't have a subscription either--I had to drive to a bookstore to find one. I had one about two years ago, but I can really only afford to subscribe to one thing at a time, and so I let it drop and picked up something else for this year.
