Woah, long day.

I'm not exactly sure where all of it went, though. There was cleaning out the crayon/paper drawer and re-organizing it. There was violin lesson for Paidhi Boy. Lunch. Naps for Paidhi Boy and Mr. Cameron. Umm, and...household chore type stuff. Nothing really big or exciting, just lots of stuff.

So the other day it ocurred to me that I had everything neccesary to make a stop-motion video. Digital camera, check. Pinnacle--check. It came with something or other. And I was pretty sure that I could line up still photos in Pinnacle, though I wasn't sure if or how I could control the frame speed.

I am here to tell you that 40 or so photos gives you about ten seconds of video. We first shot eight or nine seconds of one of Paidhi Girl's origami birds scooting around the table. With credits, we had fifteen seconds of film, so I very quickly arranged a fragment of "Long Long Ago" (choice of song--the Paidhi Kids) using Melody Assistant (it's cheap! and it does shapes!) and we had a little movie.

They grew more ambitious. Paidhi Boy wanted to do something with hotwheels cars. We fully intended a longer movie, and so the kids requested I compose a thirty second soundtrack. Which I did. Then, once we'd assembled all our pieces (animating the fire involved a lot of coloring with orange crayons and cutting things out) we started off. And ended up with about ten seconds of movie. So the rest is credits. The music doesn't really go too well with the action, but the kids were very enthusiastic about it and praised my composition skills. So it's not only your mom that likes everything you do.

We watched it a couple of times, and then realized that the "animation by" credit got deleted somehow. So we're going to fix that in the morning. But our two films took up most of the evening, and both kids were unconscious almost as soon as the bedroom light was out.

Anyway. After Mr. Cameron has had a chance to marvel at our filmmaking genius (he's working tonight) and we fix the credits, the kids want me to upload it "So everyone else can see it!"

So, the kids safely asleep, I had a late supper of Punjabi Eggplant (purchased at Trader Joes) and basmati rice. The eggplant was just over my tolerance for heat, and my mouth is still stinging a bit. I put the rest in the fridge, and will dilute it with more rice tomorrow or the next day. And now I suppose I'll have a glass of wine and read a bit, and then go to bed.

That sounds like so much fun! I love stop motion animation. I want to play.

It was a good time! If you've got something like Pinnacle, it's not to hard, although editing can be a chore. (there are probably some things that are really easy to do that I haven't figured out yet, and so moving stuff around takes extra time.)

We're probaby going to do another one today, if the kids think of anything besides exploding cars.
