I think I'm too used to short fiction.

I started off this whole taking my writing seriously thing with novels. Was intimidated by the whole short story thing. Had a lot of trouble thinking that compactly. When I decided I really ought to attempt it, I felt...hemmed in. I could hardly take a breath it seemed, there was so little room, I was so cramped.

So today I was thinking about one of the novel manuscripts, and thinking of ways to revise it, and thought, "Oh, if I do this thing I'm thinking of, that will take up real-estate, and will there be enough room?"

And then I realized. It's a novel! I have all the room in the world for that kind of thing.

Well. Not really all the room in the world. But, you know, more than a couple thousand words!

Yeah, I know. With a novel, it's tempting to put everything into it, including the kitchen sink.

A Leckie novel, eh? Connected to any stories I might have already seen? (Pardon me for drooling!)

I just heard "Hesperia and Glory" on Escape Pod and... wow. I love the concept of a human (or human-like, the main protagonist DID say what was believed would come real) civilization on Mars pre-dating space travel. It's actually one of the ideas I have thrown around before: what if instead of finding aliens on other planets, we found more humans who had adapted to an ecosystem similar to ours? Anyway, whatever you write next, novel or short story, I'm sure it will be awesome.

Why, thank you so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed Hesperia--Frank's reading was awesome.
