New Years Eve
Dec. 31st, 2003 05:11 pmSo I planned to have waffles for lunch today. Mr. Cameron was going in to work early, and it's a sort of holiday, and everybody loves waffles. Except I have to make the batter the night before and let the yeast do its thing. So I made it, and put it in the fridge, but when I checked on it later there was no activity. So I thought I'd put it on the counter for a bit, let it warm up and see if there was any activity, and pitch it and start over if not.
Well, I forgot all about it--it sat on the counter until the next morning. It was bubbly by then, but not in a bread-yeasty way, and it smelled like sourdough. I might have gone ahead and cooked it up, just to see, except there were lots of eggs in it, and it didn't seem wise. Fortunately, this morning's batch rose nicely, and we waffled to our hearts' content.
After Mr. Cameron went to work, and Paidhi boy had his nap, we went to the park and spent a half hour rolling down the hill there and getting all leafy. That was good fun! Then we decided we wanted ice cream--it's pretty warm today--and went to the grocery store, which was not a good move, the place was packed. Came away with a box of neapolitan icecream sandwiches and most of our sanity, came home and snacked.
Tonight, it's going to be home and quiet. I've got a jar of herring, some cheese and some crackers, and a bottle of Yellow Tail shiraz. I've also got some new MST3K DVDs, not to mention TTT EE and Fawlty Towers and Mr. Bean (which the paidhi kids are finding very amusing). So we're for the couch and a movie, a nice, comfy, quiet evening.
I don't have much of a list of accomplishments or events. The biggest thing I achieved was getting a passable second draft out of my NaNoWriMo novel, and producing a new first draft of another. I'd hoped to have something submittable by the end of this year, but that didn't happen, and will have to be a goal for this one. So I guess that's my one resolution, to get a final draft of this novel and get it sent out.
