Surreal botanical specimen submitted. In the course of research (not particularly intensive--it's not the sort of piece that I can sell anywhere else if Surreal Botany doesn't want it) I read Edible Wild Plants: A North American Field Guide and All About Weeds, both of which were quite interesting, and I now know more about the stuff taking over my back yard. Paidhi Girl is determined to prepare and eat some daylily buds, which according to EWP should be boiled briefly, then buttered and seasoned (with what they don't say, I suppose salt is pretty much the default), otherwise they'll irritate one's mouth and throat. Oh, I also read (yes, read straight through) the University of Florida's Aquatic, Wetland and Invasive Plant Glossary. This was pretty helpful (as well as interesting).

Interzone didn't want Au, so off it goes somewhere else. On the positive side, Jetse actually put a short note in the form email, and I know that he's swamped with subs, and it's very nice of him to have taken the extra few minutes to give me a little feedback.

We've spent the last several days doing small increments of yardwork (it's almost literally a jungle back there! But we're determined to get it more or less under control), hanging laundry out to dry (the dryer died a few days ago, and Mr. Cameron has yet to figure out what's caused it and if he can do anything about it, but hey it's summer, so no rush), and sitting by the pool. We got the passes that let you just show your card to the person at the door, instead of the show your card and pay an admission ones, which are less expensive unless you're going to the pool a lot. I figured we'd go to the pool a lot this summer, and so far we have. Yesterday I discovered which spots I'm not covering sufficiently with sunblock. Ouch.

We also got a box of popsicles, at Paidhi Girl's request, and they have riddles on them. "Why did the picture go to jail? It was framed." This led to after-supper joke-telling. Paidhi Boy doesn't quite understand how jokes are structured just yet--he gets them, but when he tries to make his own....

Paidhi Boy: Knock knock!
Me: Who's there?
Paidhi Boy: Banana!
Me: Banana who?
Paidhi Boy: Banana I'm going to blow your car up!

It's going to be pretty warm today, so instead of turning on the AC (we haven't so far, and I'm trying to put it off as long as possible) we're going to the pool as soon as it opens. Which means laundry needs to be hung out and dishes washed before we go, so I guess I'd better get cracking.
