I'm awake!

Of course, I'm always up at this hour on weekdays.

Haven't had the strength of mind to look at the Snake's Wife first draft yet. I already know it needs to be torn down and re-built, and I haven't had the time to start on it anyway. And the cats needed vacuuming.

Tonight maybe.

The other day, the larger of the two cats had...an upset tummy. This was an alarming experience, because last time a cat had an upset tummy, it lasted for days and required a harrowing and expensive trip to the vet. Paidhi Girl nearly burst into tears ("Honey," I told her, "cats puke sometimes." But it took a while to calm her down), and Paidhi Boy came to me and said, "Mom, Puddin really loved me, and she puked. Maybe she still loves me." Um. Okay, Sweetie.

Actually, Puddin' does love Paidhi Boy, rather unaccountably. He picks her up and holds on to her when she doesn't like to be picked up at all, ever*, and she has never, ever scratched him. He basically treats her like a mobile stuffed animal. But when the lights go out in the kids room, you can infallibly find Puddin' in Paidhi Boy's bed. Or sitting guard at the bedroom door. Close the bedroom door so she can't get in to be with him, and she paces outside and mews for someone to please let her in.

Okay, so she's not really the smartest cat in the litterbox. But she's very sweet. And fortunately, she seems to be perfectly fine today.

*I suspect the kids in the family we got her from of...not being kind to her. One kid said to Paidhi Girl, when they were getting the kittens, "Be careful, sometimes Puddin' is mean." And I have yet to see the slightest hint of a mean molecule in her, and my blood runs cold trying to imagine what you'd have to do to get her to be mean.
