Jan. 13th, 2007 09:21 pmThe Snake's Wife is kicking my ass.
But it is done kicking my ass for this weekend. I have posted it to the Miscue, and will not think about it for at least the next two days.
I think that, for all I know pretty much exactly what the plot is, I don't actually know what the story is about and that's making it hard for me to get a good grip on it.
So anyway. I came upstairs out of the cold, cold basement, and announced that the story was kicking my ass and my brain was fried, and Paidhi Girl advised me to read one of her own writings, to cheer me up.
There's a history behind this piece. She announced one day that she wanted to write something, and would need some time on the computer. "Sure," I said.
"So, Mom, do you have any ideas?"
"I have lots of ideas," I told her. "Most of them won't do you much good. What do you want to write about?"
It turned out that she had an impulse to write, but not the faintest idea what to write about, and wanted me to dictate her subject. "Right," I said. "Write about, um. Marshmallows. And icicles. And....squid! Squid is always good."
Marshmallow Icicle Squid
I don't think you've heard of this, but I will make up a marshmallow icicle squid. It is like a regular squid, but the meat is like marshmallow. Also, there are funky spikes on its sides, which are made of something like ice. If the squid is in cold, the spikes feel and look like ice. If it is in hot, the spikes look like burnt French fries.
People love to eat this squid raw and cooked, because it tastes good both ways. If you eat this squid raw, it tastes like marshmallows with hardened jello. If you eat it cooked, it tastes like rice crispy treats with fruit snacks. If you eat the skin, raw or cooked, it tastes like jellied walnuts.
The marshmallow icicle squid catches its prey by grasping it with its tentacles, then spiking it to death. Then it stuffs the meal into its mouth. It cleans the blood and muck from the animal by off of its spike by rubbing that spike against a rough rock.
If you want to catch one, you should use a strong fishing pole and a strong holding fish bait. Do exactly as you would do for fishing, and when you get your squid out of the water put it in a box. Catch as many squid as you need. Take them home and put them in a pan with water. This is if you want to cook them. Boil the water with the squid in it. Next, get a skillet out. Put a few drops of oil in it. Set the squid in the skillet and turn the fire on. Roll the squid around in the skillet until it looks done. If you want it raw, just eat it.
If you want to know more about marshmallow icicle squid, please feel free to ask. Be patient. It might take a while to come up with stuff.
