I didn't think Blimp was *that* big...

Memorable quote of the morning, from Paidhi Girl:
"Mom, there's a weird, tiny little fish-like thing in the tank!"
("I saw one of those yesterday," Paidhi Boy said a few minutes later. "A fish ate it.")
We've found two so far, and they've been removed to safety. We're not sure just who's popping them out, there are two platys. Both are now in breeding traps. We shall see.
I've never had baby fish before, I'm not sure just how this is going to go.

We (my late father and I) actually tried to do this on purpose once, with 2 pairs of Ramirezi, which actually take care of their babies. But nothing came of it, sadly.

What are we going to do if they all grow up? What are the chances that they'll all grow up, if we've got them in a babies-only tank? I have no idea.
(Also, I've heard of the cichlids that take care of their babies! Though I didn't know they had that name, and the extra Cherryh link is making me smile a bit.)

When I was a kid, I never thought about the connection with the surname, because we always pronounced it "ram-uh-REE-zye," and when you went to buy them at a shop, the tank labels always just said "Rams." I didn't go "Oh - they were named after someone named Ramirez" until a few years ago when I was trying to find a picture of one on the Intarwebs and had to figure out how it was actually spelled.
You need something little tiny on which to feed them, usually. If they are vegan fish ;-) thay can eat algae off the tank sides, but you might need to get special baby fish food otherwise. And they eat teeny teeny amounts, so you have to be careful not to foul the tank they're in with excess food.
